We partner with owners like yourself — experts, pioneers, troublemakers, and skilled artisans who are continually honing their craft and leading their field— to create healthy business structures and help you understand your business better.
If you’re reading this, chances are you are small business owner who has grown a successful business based on your skill and expertise (with a touch of luck, and some metaphorical marathon running along the way). But you never went to business school, and you continue to feel unsure about the business side of your business.
So you have been winging it as you go: learning on the fly, from your mistakes, while often feeling harried, overwhelmed, and like you can never find enough time.
You’re asking questions like:
What’s the best way forward? How do I decide what to do next?
What do the numbers mean? How do I use them? ( not to mention: Can I hire someone? Pay myself / pay myself more? Afford a bigger space or a second location? )
What’s the right way to hire employees? How do I create a team? How can I treat them well?
How do those other business owners take vacations and seem so calm?
When will this start to feel like a real business? Will I ever feel like a real business person?
Can I actually make money and still do what I love?
When you flip through business books, seek out free workshops at your local MBA school, or listen to most advisors, you find a lot of tools and tricks and “best practices” that never quite feel like they fit your way of doing things.
And with good reason. A lot of traditional business kind of sucks.
Capitalism is not known for playing nice with others. but dreamy idealism doesn’t exactly pay the bills.
The bad news is, there is no one right way to grow and run a business.
However, the good news is, there is no one right way to grow and run a business.
We don’t sound like traditional business consultants, because we’re not. We provide expertise, with an approach that is humor-filled, de-jargonized, intuitive, and responsive to your particular background, skills, desires, and worldview. We’ll ask you about your feelings, your dreams, and your ideal day, and use those conversations to help you understand your financials and structure your team.
We wanted Elysian Fields to help us through some growing pains and to get a good clear vision on where we needed to take our business. [Now] I am able to see the big financial picture very clearly and I feel that though we’ve always had the information, I’m able to see and interact with [our financials] in a way that is actually empowering and not scary as shit. The numbers mean things! Real things!
I would absolutely recommend EF, especially to companies started by folks who don’t necessarily have a business background. [Know] that EF can offer suggestions and expertise but nothing can change unless you actually take the advice.
I wish that we had engaged with EF before to get a more solid footing earlier in the life of the business. –Dustin Summers, The Heads of State

I wanted to grow, and I needed help to do it. I was working by myself with occasional freelance help, and I wanted to get my business to the next level. I never had formal business training, so I was making it up as I went along.
With EF’s help business grew. I hired an employee. I feel a lot better having someone else keeping an eye on things.
Talk to EF if you are good at what you do, but are unsure about some aspects of the business side,
and want the support of an outside people who are in your corner but aren’t just being cheerleaders.

For the first three months of 2017, I worked with Kate on strategizing and reworking how I approach and run my business. While in the thick of it, I think it was hard for me to see how much I had actually accomplished working with Kate. I knew I was working hard, answering the questions asked of me and exploring new ways to get to the aspects of my business that were giving me a hard time. But the big realization came at the wrap up of our work together. I had completely shifted the way I manage my day to day operations and schedule my time. I found a through line to my service offerings and a bigger vision for why I do the work that I do. Kate is a calming force and listens and problem solves in a way that is collaborative and innovative. It was a pleasure working with her and I can’t wait to continue my growth and work with Elysian Fields again.

I’m still working on my ideas and looking for clients/customers, is this for me?
If you’re still getting off the ground, we recommend checking out our foundational course. Once you’re business is really cooking, we can help you engineer your next breakthrough.
What kinds of businesses do you work with? I’m a service provider/maker of things/shop owner.

I’m really good at what I do, but I suck at business…
A lot of the folks we work with say that. As we said, you don’t have to believe you’re good at business to get better at business, you just have to be courageous enough to ask for help.
