I’m sure you didn’t start your business because you wanted to sleep less, stress more, and suddenly find yourself with not enough time to get through your growing to do list. Who would?
You started your business because you’re really good at what you do. You wanted more freedom, more time for travel or to spend with your family. You wanted to make an impact in your community. You probably wanted to make money too.
You probably don’t consider yourself a “business person,” so when you’re in the trenches it can feel impossible to step back and get perspective on what you’re doing right and what to do next.
Focus & Support.
The thing is, you don’t have to believe you’re good at business to get better at business.
- Create clarity around your goals and focus on how to achieve them
- Understand who your best customers are, and how to connect with them
- Achieve stronger financial management, analysis and decision making
- Build a business model that supports your revenue goals
- Discover ease in your operations and systems
We are experts at the nuts and bolts.
We bring our keen insight and discernment to look at your business from the inside out and create concrete, measurable changes. Our work is not therapy (though you will probably feel better!), but rather tactical and action-oriented business development work. We ground coaching and strategy in the operations and financials of your business. We will support you to streamline and enhance current systems and models and to create greater fluency in utilizing financial information.
Elysian Fields has been instrumental in transforming Metropolitan Bakery’s financial infrastructure. The principals have improved our revenue and labor tracking systems, have streamlined our banking relationships and much to our surprise, they have managed to organize all of the financial analyses so they are easy to understand. Moreover, Morris and Kate have been accessible and responsive, always providing their keen insight to complex issues and managing to keep us on track to positive results. Our focus has always been on producing a great loaf of bread and running an exemplary business. Thanks to EF, we are now able to balance those goals with being financially savvy.
-Wendy Smith Born, Co-Owner Metropolitan Bakery
We’ll work really well together if:
- You’re ambitious. You understand that you own your success and that smart owners ask for help.
- You have a sense of humor (or can tolerate ours). We take our work seriously, but that doesn’t mean we’re serious people.
- You have a pretty good idea of what you want. We can help you articulate what you want and will help you create focus in your business, but we can’t create your goals for you.
We may not be the right fit if:
- You say “I’m too busy!” or “I don’t have time!!” and aren’t willing to examine ways to change those beliefs.
- You’re looking for a quick fix. If you’re not cool with the fact that business change and growth takes work, all we can say is “good luck with that!”
- You worship at the temple of Ayn Rand or find her ideas appealing. Sorry, that’s not how we roll.
I wanted to grow, and I needed help to do it. I was working by myself with occasional freelance help, and I wanted to get my business to the next level. I never had formal business training, so I was making it up as I went along.
With EF’s help business grew. I hired an employee. I feel a lot better having someone else keeping an eye on things.
Talk to EF if you are good at what you do, but are unsure about some aspects of the business side,
and want the support of an outside people who are in your corner but aren’t just being cheerleaders.

Sound like a good fit?
We’ll meet twice per month, either in person in Center City Philadelphia, or via a video call. We budget 60-90 minutes for our in person work; we’re into efficiency, but we don’t want to feel crunched for time.
You’ll have homework and actions to implement in between meetings, and all the support you need via email and phone.
Because we’re not in the business of selling snake oil or quick fixes, we require a 3 month commitment.
The investment is $1500/month.

Frequently Asked Questions
I’m still working on my ideas and looking for clients/customers, is this for me?
If you’re still getting off the ground, we recommend checking out our Business Plan Boot Camp course. When you’re still in the hashing-out-ideas phase, we find that taking the time to step back and consider the whole of your business – the vision, the customer, the money – is a better place to start than investing in one-on-one work. Once you’re business is really cooking, we can help you engineer your next breakthrough.
What kinds of businesses do you work with? I’m a service provider/maker of things/shop owner.
All of those kinds and more! We connect with clients who are interested in creating a more vibrant world. Check out some our current and past clients.
I’m really good at what I do, but I suck at business…
A lot of the folks we work with say that. As we said, you don’t have to believe you’re good at business to get better at business, you just have to be courageous enough to ask for help.
